Gregory Colburn Death, Obituary – The Deadliest Catch community is mourning the loss of Gregory Colburn, a former crew member aboard the F/V Wizard, whose life and contributions to the Bering Sea fishing industry were honored during the July 17 episode of the long-running Discovery Channel series. Gregory passed away on May 19, 2026, at the age of 32, leaving behind family, friends, fellow fishermen, and fans who remember him for his dedication, loyalty, and generous spirit.
At the close of the July 17 episode, Deadliest Catch paid tribute to Gregory with a heartfelt message that read, “This episode is dedicated to Monte’s son Gregory Colburn, Wizard crewman 2018–2022.” The dedication was accompanied by a montage of memorable moments from his years aboard the Wizard, celebrating his contributions to the crew and his time working in one of the world’s most demanding professions.
Gregory served aboard the Wizard from 2018 through 2022, earning the respect of captains and fellow crew members through his strong work ethic and commitment to the challenging life of commercial crab fishing in Alaska’s Bering Sea. His years on the vessel reflected his passion for the industry and his willingness to embrace the hardships that came with life at sea.
Originally from Kings Beach, California, Gregory spent his early years working in restaurants throughout the North Lake Tahoe area before discovering a passion for commercial fishing in Alaska. The opportunity to work on the Bering Sea became more than a career—it became a defining part of his life. Friends say he took great pride in his work and valued the camaraderie shared among the crews who faced the dangers of the sea together.
Away from the water, Gregory was remembered as a devoted family man and loyal friend. During the fishing off-season, he lived in Chico, California, where he built a life with his fiancée, Caitlin Nenadal. He cherished their relationship and especially treasured time spent with his daughter, Scarlette, who brought tremendous joy to his life.
Those closest to Gregory describe him as someone with a “heart of gold,” always willing to lend a helping hand or offer encouragement to others. His kindness, loyalty, and sense of humor left lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Whether spending time with family, enjoying rides on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, or reconnecting with friends, Gregory embraced life with warmth and authenticity.
Gregory is survived by his fiancée, Caitlin Nenadal; his daughter, Scarlette; his parents, Monte and Catherine Colburn; his grandfather, Martin Urjevich; five siblings; extended family members; and many close friends who continue to honor his memory.
His connection to Deadliest Catch also reflected a proud family legacy. Gregory was the son of Monte Colburn and the nephew of Captain Keith Colburn, who has captained the Wizard and appeared on the Discovery Channel series since its third season. Through his years aboard the vessel, Gregory became part of the show’s extended family and earned the respect of viewers who admired the courage and perseverance required for life in the Bering Sea.
At the time of publication, Gregory’s family has not publicly disclosed the cause of his death.
