HAMMOND, La. — The communities of Saint James, Albany, Ponchatoula, and Hammond are mourning the tragic loss of Kaleb Bishop and Brittany Novak, who died in a devastating motorcycle accident on Saturday evening, July 18, 2026.

According to the Hammond Police Department, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. on W. Thomas Street near the entrance to the Chanell Shopping Center. Investigators reported that the motorcycle was involved in a collision with another vehicle after attempting to pass traffic. The impact ejected both riders, who sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
Authorities stated that impairment is not believed to have been a factor in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing.
