HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston community and law enforcement agencies across Texas are mourning the tragic loss of Sergeant Myron Dillingham, a respected Houston Police Department veteran who passed away following a motor vehicle accident on Friday, July 17, 2026. He was 67.
Known affectionately as “Dill,” “D-Ham,” and simply “Sgt.” by friends and colleagues, Myron dedicated nearly three decades of his life to serving and protecting the people of Houston. His passing has left an immeasurable void among family members, fellow officers, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. on FM 755, south of FM 1017 near the community of La Gloria in Starr County.
Authorities reported that a northbound Dodge Ram towing a utility trailer attempted to avoid an oncoming pickup truck that had crossed the center line into opposing traffic. Despite the driver’s evasive action, the pickup struck the trailer, resulting in a devastating crash. Sergeant Dillingham sustained fatal injuries in the collision. Another individual, identified as Noelio Garza Peña, also lost his life. The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Throughout his distinguished career with the Houston Police Department, Myron earned a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and unwavering dedication to public service. Fellow officers describe him as a mentor who led by example, always willing to guide younger officers while treating every member of the department with respect and compassion.
His commitment to serving others extended beyond the badge.
