A man was killed and eight other people were injured in a mass shooting outside a southeast Denver lounge early Tuesday, prompting an ongoing homicide investigation by the Denver Police Department.
According to authorities, officers responded shortly after midnight to reports of gunfire at Ultra Lounge East, located at 9755 East Hampden Avenue. When officers arrived, they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds inside the patio area and in the parking lot outside the business. Emergency medical personnel treated the victims before transporting them to nearby hospitals.
Police said eight victims sustained injuries that were considered non-life-threatening. A ninth victim, an adult man, was transported to a hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
During a news conference, Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said investigators believe the shooting occurred both on the lounge’s outdoor patio and in the adjacent parking lot. Authorities indicated that many of those present had gathered for an after-party following an earlier disturbance in neighboring Aurora.
Preliminary findings suggest that at least two firearms were used during the incident. Detectives are working to determine exactly what led to the exchange of gunfire, identify everyone involved, and establish whether the individuals knew one another before the violence erupted.
The shooting has left the southeast Denver community shaken as investigators continue collecting physical evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses. Crime scene investigators remained at the location for several hours processing the scene.
At this time, police have not publicly identified the man who died, pending notification of his family. No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not released information regarding possible suspects or a motive.
